This is a write-up of how I hard-wired my Nuvi 350 GPS to my WRX. You should consider doing this too, if you'd like the clean look and feel of no wires hanging down the middle of the dash. This also frees up the cigarette lighter for other purposes!
As most of you WRX owners may already know, there is a 12V power source where the map lights are, for the auto-dimming mirrors. This source will supply power when the car's turned on. The pictures below will show the process of me modifying a cigarette lighter adapter that has a USB port, tapping it into the mirror's power, then connecting it to the Nuvi. The USB port should make things more convenient, as the Nuvi uses a mini-usb plug for power.
Slight background:
I am a newbie when it comes to cars . I'm probably even worse at electrical things. However, I used to be a computer hardware enthusiast, which is why I can solder. As you will soon see, I used several computer-related items through out the project.
Photo commenting is now possible! Although it's not exactly how I wanted it to work, all you've gotta do is view the picture, and choose "Add Comment" from the little drop down menu under the photo. Everyone's still named "guest," but I'll see what I can do about that when I get a chance.
On another note, I see that Eric has released his first batch of pics. Check em out!
